Patrick Grant

My muse right now.

iPhone

Ok, I've got something to admit to: I'm getting an iphone.  Yes, that's right I'll be joining the ranks of plonkers who think they're techo-savy, cool and current because they own a phone some very clever people have made.

Soon you should expect to hear me say stupid things such as "I can't live without my iphone!", and "I feel lost without it".  But before you judge me too harshly I'll give you the back story:

I've never had a 'smartphone' before because I was on my Dad's business plan and he got given boring, business-type phones.  My last one was the Nokia 6300 which was actually quite a nice little number.  Good size, reliable, cheap and understated.  Actually a pretty cool phone now I come to consider it more.  Anyways I got bored of not having a smartphone to play with, so I could waste time more efficiently, and of being a bit pathetic having my Dad pay for my phone when I was 28.  Also because I was on a business tariff I couldn't send picture messages, which I found quite annoying.

After much deliberating and procrastinating I decided to go for a Vodafone sim only plan on a recurring 30 day contract.  So I had a sim but no phone.  I then went on ebay and bidded and won a HTC Wildfire.  That came and I was all excited with a smartphone.  At first I hated the touch screen but soon got used to it and began to like it.  However after a while I began to notice that it could be a bit slow when texting (there would be a delay between touching the letter and it appearing as text), the internet was slow, it stalled sometimes, didn't send messages straight away and sometimes didn't acknowledge receipt of messages.  This could all well have to do with the fact I got it off ebay and there's no guarantee it wasn't a duff one.  So I don't want to put you off HTC as a brand; I just had a bad experience.

So after having this phone for a while I began to get annoyed with it and set about looking how much a second hand iphone 3gs would cost.  They are very good phones after all and I wanted something  that would work.  A few days ago I was on ebay searching for them and saw one for £190, just for a laugh I placed a max bid of £240 two minutes before the auction closed, with no real intention of winning.  I kept refreshing the page expecting to be out bid but it didn't happen and I won it for £210.  It should be arriving tomorrow.  Fingers crossed it's not a duff one.

Here's the blighter:

So that's my iphone story and hopefully you won't hate me for having one.

Shakespear

Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Macbeth Act 5, scene 5, 19-28

Oi Polloi

I went to the oi polloi shop today for the first time.
It was great: got some nice stuff, spent too much money and got served by Mr Brown himself.  It was like meeting a celebrity.

By the way, his real name's John.

Got these:

This waffle cardigan has a really nice worn in feel.
These Dockers tappered chinos were a great buy at a very reasonable £75.  Might have to get the blue ones.

Tried this on and thought, "I'm 'aving that" straight away.  I'll have to be careful what I pare with it though; thinking dark blue or white.

Issues

Been listening to a lot of KoR recently; maybe I have some issues.
